Asheville is changing...

I am aware that Asheville is growing and changing in the ways that don't feel great for the folks that have been around for a while, so I hope to enter as respectfully and gracefully as possible. I also thought it might be helpful to let you know more about me and my decision to move to Asheville.

Why is Tracy Davis-Black Therapy moving to Asheville?

While I am moving from the San Francisco Bay Area, I am a Southerner at my core. I grew up just outside of Atlanta. I was fortunate to have spent many years during my childhood and young adulthood in western North Carolina. At the age of twelve, I fell in love with the majestic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains this propelled me to Cullowhee for part of college. After twenty years of living in various places (Atlanta, Massachusetts, Oakland) while developing my career, I am yearning for a return to the quality of life of the South. The pace of life here honors connection, beauty, and nature like no other place I’ve been. I have missed so many things about the South; the fireflies, thunderstorms, family, the sound of cicadas, old friends, and the generous spirit of southern people. Returning to Asheville feels like the right next step to lay down permanent roots. I am drawn to Asheville by the beauty and the community priorities of creativity, healing, queerness, and social action. In many ways, moving to Asheville feels like coming full circle and also coming home.

A bit more about Tracy Davis-Black Therapy

I have worked in the mental health field for 17+ years. My career began in Georgia as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist working with teenagers in adventure-based programs and residential hospital settings where I incorporated wilderness, art, and wellness interventions into their treatment recovery. These experiences inspired me to learn more, so I pursued my graduate degree in Clinical Social Work at Smith College School for Social Work. I was drawn to this program for its anti-racism priorities and strong clinical reputation. For the past 11 + years, I have worked as a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in the San Francisco Bay Area in both private practice and community based non-profit mental health settings. I have worked extensively with survivors of complex trauma, the LGBTQIA+ community, systems-involved families (foster care & juvenile justice), and communities of color. The people, who I have had the honor to serve, have been my best teachers. I look forward to bringing these rich learning experiences with me to Asheville.  If you know of feasible ways that I can be of service to the community, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Good people of Asheville, I look forward to becoming a contributing member of your community.
